Wheellerplays - The Definitive Author’s Collection DVD

By Mark Wheeller

This DVD showcases imaginative versions of well known and not so well known scenes. Mark is particularly impressed by the vibrant new version of the crash scene in Too Much Punch which he says “beats any version I have previously seen!” Kill Jill using hip-hop movements as a backdrop is another to admire. We could go on!!!

These extracts introduced by Mark Wheeller are performed by Mark’s Oasis Youth Theatre group on the DVD and printed in a companion script also published by dbda featuring extracts from the following plays:

Too Much Punch For Judy; No Place for a Girl; Chunnel of Love;
Legal Weapon II; Arson About; Missing Dan Nolan; The Gate Escape; Kill Jill; Driven To Distraction and One Million to... STOP THE TRAFFIK

Wheellerplays Exemplified

Using extracts from plays such as ‘Hard to Swallow’, ‘Too Much Punch for Judy’ and ‘Missing – Dan Nolan’ a range of performance techniques and devices are demonstrated. For those who are unfamiliar with Mark's plays, this DVD is of particular use, to illustrate alternative ideas to Naturalistic Drama for students to use when devising their own work.

The DVD includes three extracts, directed by Tim Ford Director at the Birmingham Rep Young Theatre, from each of the following plays: Hard To Swallow, Too Much Punch & Graham World’s Fastest Blind Man! There are also two extracts from Arson About & Missing Dan Nolan and one extract from: Chicken; Chunnel of Love; Kill Jill; Legal Weapon; No Place For a Girl/Sweet FA.

GRAHAM – World’s Fastest Blind Runner DVD

The original award winning (final) Oaklands YouthTheatre production of this play. Includes a multi camera angled, professionally filmed version of the play. Ideal to introduce a class to the play; and as a bonus, a one camera shoot of the version which was shown at the All English Theatre Festival Final (2008 award winners for ensemble work).

“Mark Wheeller’s passion for physical theatre was tested to the full in this production as he wove the tale of his friend’s life and subsequent death through a monochrome ensemble kitted out with nothing but a couple of buckets full of white-washed broom handles and a string of pearls. The cast created a rich stage poetry that was as near to magical illusion as is possible without the help of smoke and mirrors. The actors transformed their white brooms into every imaginable setting, giving a slick backdrop to the main action.”
Paul Mills, Head of Drama, Westgate School, Winchester

One Million to... STOP THE TRAFFIK - DVD
By Mark Wheeller

The DVD of OYT’s premiere performance, which went on to represent England in the British One Act Play Competition Final 2010.

One million to... STOP THE TRAFFIK tells true stories of people who are trafficked. Sunni and Whinney just 6 and 8 years old were sold by their parents and their story inspired the formation of STOP THE TRAFFIK. “People should not be bought and sold” became their mantra. One Million to... STOP THE TRAFFIK goes on to tell the incredible true story of their determined quest to get 1,000,000 signatures to enable them to go to the United Nations and call on governments to fight human trafficking.

"I was blown-away by ‘One Million to... STOP THE TRAFFIK’. It was like watching 'Slumdog Millionaire' only this was live theatre... the young actors' hearts are beating and breaking in front of you. One Million to... STOP THE TRAFFIK should be recognised as Mark Wheeller’s most far-reaching, insightful and accomplished play to date."
Paul Mills, Head of Drama, Westgate School, Winchester

“The hour long show was spellbinding and quite disturbing… it was one of the best productions I have seen in a long time, anywhere.”
Ian Murray, Chief Editor Daily Echo

The DVD also features exclusive interviews with Mark Wheeller, Steve Chalke, members of the STOP THE TRAFFIK team and cast members.
